Love Fulfills God’s Requirements
8 Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law. 9 For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.”[a] These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”[b] 10 Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfills the requirements of God’s law.
I am a simple girl. The Bible is a huge book with lots of stories and do's and don'ts. When I read do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet, I feel pretty good. The commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself" sums up the law. This is a little harder. I have to admit it out loud. I suffer from self love. I want to do things MY WAY. I want to do things I want to do. If my husband wants to watch football, that does NOT sound fun. I would rather watch Pride and Prejudice for the 1000th time! This dying to self is not so easy. When I look at my actions and words through the lens of loving others as myself, it takes some sacrifice. Ouch!
Dear Lord Jesus. by your Holy Spirit, guide me to do your will in my life. Teach me how to LOVE others as myself.
